Date: 6 Sep 1996 00:52:11 GMT A Future Prediction from March '85 Electronic Games... I just got my copy of EG March '85 from Kurt Stone (great shape, like you said Kurt!) and there is a brief article in the 'Hotline' section about Nintendo... NINTENDO'S FINAL SOLUTION Known for arcade classics like Donkey Kong and Punch-Out in the U.S., Nintendo has built its reputation in Japan as the leading manufacturer of home videogaming systems with its Advanced Video Entertainment System (AVS). Having sold more than 2.5 million AVS there, Nintendo has decided to distribute the AVS here, perhaps as earlier as this spring. (It's *their* poor grammer folks, not mine - scott) Considering that the videogame market in America has virtually disappeared, this could be a miscalculation on Nintendo's part. Described as similar to Atari's never-released 7800 system, and as an improvement over ColecoVision, the AVS features a Nintendo arcade games "hall of fame" series and a "light wand" that is intended for target-type games. The joysticks are wireless and no other cartridges are compatible with the AVS. A keyboard may at some point be sold as an accessory. Well, we all know the rest of the story during these past 11 years. Considering that this was written post-Crash it's no wonder the author was skeptical of Nintendo's prospects. I though you'd find it amusing. Scott
