Beetlejuice publisher:LJN programmer:Rare ltd. release:1991 players:1 graphics:9 sound:10(some of the best I've heard) play control:9 replay value:8 Well, a movie-based game. Big Deal. Well, unlike most, this one is very good in terms of control, sound, and graphics. The challenge is there, but it's not crippling. Of course this isn't an average side-scroller. There are the hidden rooms and the chance to make money to buy stuff with. This is an interesting feature of the game. By stomping on the small, different colored beetles, or jumping on certain enemies, you make money to buy 'scares' with, scares being firepower to beat the bosses with. The scares themselves have different abilities. While the skeleton scare can protect you from being stung, the birdman scare allows you to jump higher, the medusa can freeze enemies, ect... . The game itself isn't really long, but there is enough to keep you playing. Plus I think you have to beat the game 3 times in a row to see the real ending. So this is about 3 hours of fun right there if you choose to play 3 times through. I haven't tried this yet. While not insanely hard, it can be difficult if you've never played it before, so Game Genie codes may be necessary if you feel you need to use them. final rating: if you see it, get it.
