Undoubtably the best game ever created, The Legend of Zelda is challenging to even the greatest of retro gamers. Who could forget Link's classic adventure in Hyrule? This game has everything. A difficult maze of levels, lots of items, a classic storyline, and Leevers!

The Legend of Zelda was released in 1986 by Nintendo of America. Its packaging was different than other NES games of the times, so it stood out. The maps, the larger-than-normal manual, and the gold game pak are just a few things I remembered catching my attention when I opened this game up. The techniques Nintendo used to market this game were rather lame. The commercial that was used to promote it was some scraggly guy running down an alley screaming "Zelda". Wouldn't that make you want to buy a game?!

The Legend of Zelda puts you in the place of "Link", a little green guy with dwarven-like ears. Your princess "Zelda" has been captured by Ganon. Ganon wants the Triforce so he can rule the world. But before he could snatch it, Zelda broke the Triforce into several pieces and spread them in dungeons in Hyrule. As Link, it is your goal to put the Triforce together and save Zelda. This of course means that you have to go into the dungeons and slay the evil monsters that reside there. But it's not as easy as it sounds. To beat The Legend of Zelda you had to use a combination of skill and smarts tosolve the mysteries of the dungeons. There were secret rooms as there are in every adventure/rpg, but there was no way of telling where you would find them. Sometimes you would have enough trouble just finding the dungeons!

The Legend of Zelda also featured a cool new second quest. The locations of the dungeons had been changed, along with the locations of certain items. There were also invisible walls that could be walked through. This is almost a entirely new game in itself!

For those of you who are old enough to remember, consumers flocked to the stores to get this game. It was the first time any video game had so much demand and such little supply. I was lucky to get my hands on this game the first week it was released, and there is no way in hell that I could ever regret buying it.
